Living Without Regrets....Not if You are Living

Regrets

People have regrets

I have regrets….very old ones and some more recent

I have been told by people I should not have regrets….regrets are bad…poison…

Yet I have never totally gotten rid of my regrets

How is it humanly possible to have no regrets?

In my opinion people who have no regrets are either completely out of touch with themselves, liars or heavily medicated and over using  Xanax (no offense to my Xanax using readers)

To be alive is to have regrets

I sometimes regret things on a daily basis….sometimes not

What do I do with them….

I do not look at them as bad….I don’t let them poison me

I don’t ignore them or pretend I don’t have them

I don’t overreact about them, create unnecessary drama over them, ruminate on them or obsess over them

I don’t live in the past and I certainly don’t let them ruin my today

I pull them apart as they come

I examine them and ask myself  “is there anything from this moment  of regret
that I can learn from”?

Some of those moments have been deeply painful

But

I use them as motivators to change my behavior

I use them as reminders

I access them as ways to push myself into taking risks

They fuel me

They teach me

They humble me

They remind me of the kind of person I want to be and how I want to live

As the days progress I do find myself having fewer and fewer regrets because of how I handle them

Don’t drown in a sea of regrets

Swim through them and head to the shore….look back at them, don’t repeat them….learn from them ….they can be your  life savers for today if you let them…
